for those in Australia on the west coast come to the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts Sept12-Oct 23 to hear an elevator transformed into a pigeons’ home loft with the sounds of 120 pigeons. The exhibition is called “I took a deep breath” and is for BEAP07 (Biennale of Electronic Arts Perth).

  33. Dr S Kumar replied:

Now that Alan Bradley has restricted pigeon feeding in Trafalgar square, the poor creatures have had to travel further afield to look for food and to survive. The number of pigeons in Pimlico and Westminster have doubled. Unfortunately, I live in the same street as the Councillor and a number of his supporters. To curb the spread of pigeons, Bradley has decided to hire the use of hawks. Local residents are being restricted from feeding birds altogether.

All this is being done to protect the reputation and work of the Councillor. No consideration is being given to the Lord’s creatures or to the feelings of Westminster residents who, out of their own expense, take little pleasure in feeding and looking after the wildlife.

  52. Ed replied:

Dear Brian Pigeon, The update here is that the SPCA met with our City Council on Friday and told them that they disapproved of culling by shooting so hopefully this gets us pigeons a chance. We were wondering if you might be able to put something up on your site (in the main section) to help expose the barbarism of this city. The editorial of today’s paper (The Dominion Post) featured a great article from a lady pigeon from Youlgrave, Derbyshire who wrote in to oppose the cull. We welcome letters like this from all over the world as New Zealand’s dependence on tourism is a fragile one and it might just be the thing to get the City Council (wretched humans) to hear our plight. In other news, Pigeon Air has announced some specials to London today so I may be able to see Aunt Muriel Pigeon for Xmas after all. I even sent a message to Graham Norton Pigeon to call our council and attempt to ridicule them by asking, “How sexually incompetent do you have to be to feel the need to shoot a pigeon while it sleeps?”

Perhaps you can edit out something from the email below that I sent around to a few of my contacts earlier:

“Just an update for interested parties. I just spoke to Lisa Snow at the SPCA. Following Friday’s meeting between Brett Lahman (SPCA) and Justin McCarthy (WCC) on Friday (October 3rd), the SPCA explained to the WCC that they do not support the cull by shooting. If the Council goes ahead with it, they will be acting against the recommendations of our nation’s most prominent animal welfare organisation. Raaj Govinda (raaj.govinda@wcc.govt.nz ) is the one to contact if you want to stress this point some more to the city council. CC in his boss as well (alison.box@wcc.govt.nz). [You may wish to note that neither of these individuals are pigeons nor do they have any friends or relatios who are].

Write as many letters to the newspaper editorials all around the country! Get the nation aware of the Council’s inhumane stance on this matter. Tell as many people as you can. I have notified the media in England – where quite a lot of our country’s tourists come from…and the support has been overwhelming (Have a look at the editorial section of today’s Dominion Post). Inundate the City Council with your phone calls of opposition!

Let us expose this barbaric madness to every corner of the globe.”

    Regards,

    Ed Pigeon
