Bird News: Sex Change Chicken

Kid you not. Aptly named 'Freaky' starts life as a hen, like this:

Freaky Chicken, Pigeon Blog

Suddenly, she decides she wants to be a cock, and just starts crowing at dawn. Out of the blue. Fucking Jesus. She even grew a big old 'man glove' on her head and started drinking pints, apparently.

All the lady chickens stopped speaking to her. Guess they were a bit freaked out. Fair enough. Then, even worse – there she is crowing like a fella when a rumour starts flying around saying 'she wants a bit of cock' instead of 'she wants to be a cock' – this meant all the man chickens stopped speaking to her too. Terrified apparently. Nightmare.

Not sure how far he/she's gonna push it, but just shows that decisions like this should never be taken lightly. Any pigeons out there thinking of doing the same thing, think again.

Good luck with it all, Freaky – you fucking weirdo.

My Dad was born in Panama, me, I’m from New York City, but anyhow, my old man told me when I was a wee twat when hens get old they turn into roosters. Sort of to take the pressure off because hens get to knackered to lay eggs and anyway roosters have it easy. I took my Dad at his word. He said it was the same for fish and such too. This insiteful info was from people living in villages – with chickens – in Colon Panama.

Now here it is decades later and everyone is acting like chickens turning into hens is shocking news. Hey, I’m telling you my father was not ahead of his time in any way shape or form. Maybe everything old (like my Dad & his ancient ways) is new again?

Claire: Thanks for this. Top story! No wonder there’s no older lady pigeons. Jesus. All makes sense now. They’re all fellas. Fair play!

Many birds species can do this, not just chickerns. Most female birds only develop reproductive organs on one side. If the organ is damaged, the other will develop…and sometimes it becomes male and the hormones produced can change the whole body to male. The leading theory is that if something happens to the species of birds, where alot of the males die off, some of the females can change to males to help the species survive. Just a another useless fact I learned in college biology!

Jamymes: Not useless at all. Top fact! Cheers! Gonna put some feelers out – see if this kinda weird shit happens to pigeons? Does it happen to people?
